Naha Police yesterday arrested two brothers after they allegedly assaulted two police officers Monday night at approximately 11:00pm at Kobito-2.

The officers were responding to a report of malicious damage at a residence. However, when they arrived two men aggressively resisted arrest and then assaulted the two officers.

The officers received minor injuries and retreated from the area. They reported the incident to Naha Police Post.

A number of officers from Naha organised an operation and returned to Kobito-2 around 6:30am yesterday morning and arrested two men.

Acting Commissioner of Police, Peter Marshall, said he was very disappointed that members of the community would turn on police particularly when they went to the area to provide assistance.

"Police are here to serve the community. I am disappointed that some people think it is acceptable to assault officers when they are trying to help solve a situation.

"The quick actions from officers at Naha to support their colleagues and return to Kobito to arrest the offenders is very pleasing," he said.

The two men are currently in custody and assisting police with their investigation. Formal charged are expected to be laid in the coming days.
