A memorial service to remember the victims of the earthquake that recently struck Christchurch was held at St. Barnabas Cathedral yesterday.

Organized by the New Zealand High Commission office, the somber ceremony service was attended by his Excellency the Governor General Sir Frank Kabui and Lady Kabui, Prime Minister Danny Phillip and Madam Philip, Senior Government Officials, Diplomats, RAMSI personnel, friends and supporters of the people of Christchurch.

Speaking to officially begin service Dean of the Cathedral Reverend Davidson Nwaeramo says the service shows "our sense of solidarity with the people of Christchurch."

The Solomon Islands New Zealand High Commissioner, H.E Mark Ramsden, says the earthquake had a profound effect on New Zealand, an unfortunate event that will linger in the minds of many for generations to come.

Mr Ramsden sincerely thanked all who have generously supported the recovery of those affected by the earthquake.
