Market vendors based around the White River and Rove area have appealed to the Police and the Honiara City Council to extend the seven days notice given to them to vacate the premises.

The Vendors claim that the seven days notice expected to lapse on Thursday the 22nd is not sufficient enough to allow them to clear out the area.

SIBC reported that the Vendors were shocked by police raids that were conducted at homes and make shift huts at the two market spots.

Police and the Honiara City Council mounted a major clean up operation in the two public spots in an attempt to crack down on the illegal trade in drugs and the home made alcohol, 'Kwaso'.

Large quantities of these products were confiscated and a number of key suspects were arrested during this operation.

The police operation is expected to end by the Christmas season.
