Commissioner of Police Peter Marshall confirmed that Hon Mark Kemakeza, MP representing the Nggella Constituency of Central Islands Province and younger brother of Sir Allan Kemakeza, appeared at a mention hearing at Honiara Magistrate's Court yesterday .

Mr Kemakeza faces 2 charges of Official Corruption for offences alleged to have occurred in August 2007 and on or about 10 October 2007. He also faces 2 Conversion charges and 1 Abuse of Office charge dating back to October 2007.

The Director of Public Prosecutions approved the laying of charges of Official Corruption and Conversion after a brief of evidence was submitted by RSIPF Corruption Squad detectives.

The charges relate to the use of funding allocated to Rural Micro Fishing Projects 2007.This matter is now before the courts. Mr Kemakeza was charged on summons and did not enter a plea at the Mention Hearing yesterday. He is next due to appear in court in 14 days' time on 16 December.
