The Malaysian Honorary Consul-General to Solomon Islands, Mr Hii Yii Ging has donated $72,000 thousand dollars to four hospitals in the country.

He donated $20,000 dollars to the United Church run Helena Goldie Hospital at Munda, Western Province, $18,000 dollars to the Isabel Provincial Hospital at Buala, and $17,000 dollars each to Kilu'ufi Hospital on Malaita Province and Kira Kira Hospital on Makira-Ulawa Province.

Mr Hii handed the financial assistance to the Prime Minister, Dr Derek Sikua, who handed it to the Minister of Health and Medical Services, Clay Forau, for disbursement to the provincial health authorities. Mr Hii has also donated $20,000 to the Solomon Islands Handicap Centre at Rifle Range, West Honiara.

He raised the money through a fundraising effort held during Malaysia's 52nd Independence Anniversary on August 29 at the Golf Club in Honiara. Various supporters and friends paid $5,000 dollars a team to take part in a corporate golf game which raised $112,000 dollars. Prominent Malaysians working and living in Solomon Islands helped Mr Hii with the fund-raising event.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister, Dr Derek Sikua expressed his appreciation to Mr Hii and the Malaysian community for sponsoring the event as well as good golfers for taking part in the golf game.

He says the assistance will greatly benefit "our people who will be seeking medical treatment in those hospitals."

Prime Minister Sikua and Madam Sikua also took part in the charity golf game playing in Mr Hii's team which took up the 5th placing.
