Supply of Solomon Islands canned tuna will decline in the next few months if production at Noro Cannery in the Western Province does not resume.

Noro Cannery has been closed since March this year due to unresolved issues regarding shares in the company.

Speaking with SIBC News Production Manager John Pina says with the closure of production, the company has ran out of baby and regular sized tinned fish with only a small quantity of family sized tinned fish left.

Mr Pina said that if production does not resume soon then the country may not see locally produced tinned fish in the supermarkets.

The Production Manager said that the warehouse at Noro is empty and workers do not have much to do.

Mr Pina says this has left them in an uncomfortable situation where the production division simply waits for production to resume with the added uncertainty of whether or not they will be paid.
