The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock is currently hosting a five day workshop on the 2008 National Rice Development project, attended by more than 120 rice farmers from the Provinces.

In an interview with Solomon Times, the National Rice Coordinator, Mr. Michael Ho'ota stated that the workshop has been divided into groups to discuss farm husbandry, machinery operations and project introduction.

"This will help local farmers on the know-how to run, direct and manage their rice projects," he said.

He stated that most of the local rice farmers need to be familiar with the rice machines to be provided by the Ministry.

"We want to help farmers boost their knowledge on rice farming and also to provide them with the necessary equipments," he said.

He concluded that over the years, the quality of the rice produced by local farmers have improved, adding that the Ministry will continue to support them to better improve their skills and products.
