A prominent local businessman, Namson Tran has donated sporting equipment worth a total of $31,000-00 to the national rugby 7s team.

The assistance, which includes rugby shoes, training outfits and rugby jerseys, comes as a timely boost to the team which is currently preparing for the Pacific Mini Games in the Cook Islands in September this year.

The rugby 7s team's head coach, Jim Seuika, handed over the donated equipment to the team's captain, Edmond Tai, on behalf of Mr. Tran during a brief ceremony at the team's Panatina training ground on Monday.

Mr. Seuika told Express Sports after the ceremony that he was very grateful for the assistance which he said would help motivate his boys during training.

He said before Mr. Tran's donation, the team had quite basic equipments to train with.

Mr. Seuika said faced with the problem, the sevens team put out requests for possible sponsors to various business houses and it was then that Mr Tran stepped in with his generous donation.

The national rugby 7s team is one of the seven sporting team selected by the National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands (NOCSI) to represent the country at the Pacific Mini Games.
