The liquor licenses squad is hard at work on their Christmas raids on black market outlets in and around the city.

Speaking at the Commissioner's press conference this week, Head of the Liquor Licenses Unit, Sergeant Chris Laekalia, said that with the Christmas festive season just around the corner, there is sure to be more black markets on the streets.

He said that the Unit will be doing rounds in clubs to make sure licenses are viable and no illegal selling of alcohol in place.

"We will be moving in clubs and all illegal black market outlets in the city," he said.

Serg. Laekalia said that although 2008 has been a stressful year, "we have carried out successful raids".

This had resolved in a total of 31 operations being made on illegal outlets for beers and Kwaso, "the total estimated cost of what has been taken adds up to a total of SBD$350, 000".
