Likely Disaster for Islands

The National Disaster Management Office, N-D-M-O says the possibility of a serious disaster situation on Malaita Outer Islands is eminent if nothing is done now to prevent it happening.

NDMO Director Loti Yates says the current situation on the islands is made worse by the lack of adequate shipping services and medical supplies.

Mr Yates says the situation must be addressed now to avert any further and more serious disaster situation.

He says the lack of medical visits and supplies, coupled with with lack of clean drinking water and enough food supplies pose serious health risks for the people.
