Santa Claus came in a form of 21 football players on Christmas Day for the Children at the Children's Ward at the National Referral Hospital.
They were members of the SIFF LEARN & play Team currently training for the tour to Vanuatu in January. It was an exhilarating experience for the young soccer players for some of whom this was their first visit to the National Referral Hospital.The team was eagerly welcomed by the patients at the Children's Ward as they entered with the presents. The players talked with some of the patients and distributed the presents to the kids. The presents ranged from soccer balls to toy trucks and were a welcome addition to a bright Christmas Day for the patients.
According to the players this is a new experience for them and they are happy to be able to bring some joy to the Children's Ward. 'Christmas is a special time and we're happy to have been able to contribute to brightening up the day," the players said.
The presents were sponsored by the LEARN & play Project, who is also fiancing the team's participation in the U15-U16 TVL International Tournament in Vanuatu.
The team will leave for Vanuatu to take part in some pre-tournament programs before the actual start of the competition on January 16. Other teams from the pacific will also take part in the U15-U16 TVL International Tournament.
The visit to the Children's Ward was part of the Christmas Day program for the members of the team who are residing at the SIFF Academy. Earlier in the day the LEARN & play attended the United Church Christmas morning prayer program.
