A two days youth leadership training is underway in Honiara.

The training workshop started its first session this morning with participation of twenty youth leaders from various youth groups.

The training that is funded by the "Sexual Health and Family Planning Australia" (SHFPA) is purposely to train youth leaders on Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH).

Speaking to Solomon Times, trainer, Oscar Watesao, said that a lot of issues in relation to SRH involve mainly young people.

"Participants are expected to be equipped with knowledge and skills after the training and should be able to help others from their youth groups to help build a better healthy community."

Mr. Watesao said that his training is aimed at cutting down the SRH issues that are affecting lives of young people in the country.

He adds that the young leaders undergoing the training will also be well informed of choices and good decision making for a healthy nation.

Meanwhile, a representative from SHFPA, Joanna Fancley, told Solomon Times that the SHFPA in Australia have great concerns for the youths of Solomon Islands.

"I am in the country to make sure the trainings conducted by SIPPA are playing a big impact in the communities."
