The Secretariat of the Pacific Community in-country office has been officially opened at the Anthony Saru Building in Honiara.

The cutting of ribbon ceremony was officially done by the SPC Director-General, Dr. Jimmie Rodgers and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. William Haomae.

Speaking at this afternoon's ceremony, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. William Haomae said that the arrangement is the first of its kind in the region.

Hon. Haomae stated that the establishment of the SPC in-country office is an important step in partnership between Solomon Islands and the SPC.

"One of the key policy objectives of the CNURA government is to work closely with international and regional organizations in enhancing the welfare of our people".

He said the MOU signing and official opening of the office is an example of the closeness and trust that the country's government has established and will continue to enhance with the regional organizations in the Pacific.

Hon. Haomae stated that the in-country office will be overseeing the implementation of the Solomon Islands and Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) Joint Country Strategy (JCS), 2009-2012.

He explained that the JCS was formulated to guide the provision of SPC technical assistance and other support services to Solomon Islands over the next four years.
