Solomon Islands and Tahiti have won their first games of Group B of the Oceania Football Confederation, OFC, U17 Championship currently being held in Auckland, New Zealand.

Solomon Islands Katukatu beat New Caledonia 2-1 in the opening game on Match Day Two of the Championship.

John Bitiai scored the first goal for Solomon Islands in the eleventh minute when he got on the end of a well-flighted Junior Albert long ball and lofts his header over the advancing New Caledonia goalkeeper, Usike.

New Caledonia equalized in the 17th minute when the Solomon Islands defence failed to deal with a bouncing ball and Buscaglia volleyed home from near the penalty spot.

But Solomon Islands got the killer goal two minutes into the second half when New Caledonia failed to deal with a corner and Atana Fa'arodo poked the ball home after a goal line scramble.

Meanwhile, in the second Group B match of today, Tahiti notched a comfortable 8-nil win over Tonga.

Solomon Islands' next game will be against Tahiti on Tuesday.

They will play Tonga on Thursday and their final group match against the Cook Islands will be on Monday 17th January.

The final match of the OFC Under-17 will be on January 19.
