European Investment Bank has agreed to provide technical assistance for renewable energy development to the Solomon Islands government.

The agreement had been signed between the Minister for Mines, Energy and Rural Electrification and the European Investment Bank.

The technical assistance proposed a technical economic feasibility study for the development of a hydro electric scheme on Tina River, in Central Guadalcanal.

During the launching of the feasibility study program at Tina Village, caretaker Prime Minister, Derek Sikua says the ceremony is a very important milestone in the development of renewable energy in the country.

He says without the cooperation of the people at Tina area the project would not reach this far however through the signing of agreement between government and the land owners it reflects the people's cooperation.

Dr Sikua acknowledges the willingness of people working together with government and aid donors.
