Solomon Islands will this week for the first time host the Pacific Islands Correctional Women's Conference.

The conference is inspired by the theme for 2011 "Breaking Barriers and Promoting Positive Changes" and will run from the 19th to the 23rd of September at the Iron Bottom Sound Hotel in Honiara.

The Correctional Services of Solomon Islands says they are proud to be the first of the eleven pacific island nations to host the women's conference.

It says the conference is to promote gender equity in the region and share initiatives in work places across the South Pacific Correctional jurisdiction.

Being the first of it's kind in the region, the conference will be a great achievement for the organisation towards their vision and mission statement to develop its womens' network.

Various countries in the Pacific will be represented in the meeting.
