Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport (SINIS) held its first in-house hockey competition this week Sunday for year 2023.

This is an in-house competition between hockey athletes formally known as the Green vs Blue at SINIS that will take place fortnightly.

According to the Strength and Conditioning Coach of Performance Services Team (Portfolio 2) looking after hockey Mr Joachim Rande, the in-house hockey competition gives a chance for players to compete each other and feel how the pressure of games is after friendlies.

"This is good to see where their level has reached and where we need to work on to improve," said Rande.

On the hockey Green vs Blue, two teams of boys and girls have been split up, as they will compete to see how they can perform with all the training given to them, and to see what areas they need to work on. This includes what is their fitness level, some of the physical demand that they need to work on and the mental and physical part.

"Such games is good for all teams to have as other teams at SINIS have started off their trainings too. For hockey, this is their first for 2023 and it will go fortnightly for the whole of this year towards their competitions ahead. So this is good for them. And, in that way we can identify some new players that would like to come and join in," said Rande.

The hockey Green vs Blue competition had started last year 2022 at SINIS.
