The Opposition has moved another motion of No Confidence on the Prime Minister despite the summoning to court of the mover of the first motion Edward Huni'ehu and the Speaker of Parliament.
Unconfirmed reports have stated that the Opposition group has filed yet another motion of No Confidence on Friday. The mover of the motion is MP for Small Malaita, William Haomae. The motion, if it was indeed filed on Friday and accepted by Parliament, could be debated as early as this Friday.An Opposition Spokesman stated that they are also watching closely the case before the courts on one of its Senior Opposition Members. The Senior Opposition MP is scheduled to appear in court later today.
The Opposition MP, along with three other defendants, has been charged with conspiracy to unlawful purpose. The prosecution had been given till today to provide specific details to the charge. The three defendants made their first appearance in the Honiara Magistrate's Court last Monday.
The defense had earlier successfully applied for a name suppression order which prevents the media from naming the three defendants and from publishing any information that could reveal their identity. The name suppression order expires today.
Meanwhile, the Opposition group has maintained that it has the numbers to win the motion. An Opposition spokesman said that "this is evident with governments attempt to block the debate last Friday". If the motion is allowed to go ahead this Friday, it will be an unprecedented third motion of No Confidence on Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare in less then one and a half years in power.
