The Governor General has announced the new date for the National Parliament to meet.

In a proclamation yesterday, Sir Nathaniel Waena announced that the Solomon Islands Parliament will sit on December 13.

Sir Nathaniel said he set the date after discussing the political impasse with Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare.

He said both the prime minister and the government agreed with him that parliament must meet to approve a resolution, which will empower government to spend funds from the Consolidated Fund in the first three months of 2008.

Sir Nathaniel says it is not possible for Parliament to deliberate on the 2008 budgets estimates this year.

In another new political development, former education minister, Dr. Derek Sikua, says he has already submitted to Parliament a notice for a motion of no confidence in Mr. Sogavare's leadership.

Dr. Sikua is one of the eight ministers who had resigned from the Sogavare government.
