The Acting Prime Minister Fred Fono says the CNURA government respects the private sector.

Mr Fono made the statement in reply to the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry's, SICCI, comment earlier this week that the government "appears not to be concerned with problems which the private sector faces."

SICCI Chairman Mike Hemmer expressed this disappointment following the burning down of Guadalcanal Plains Palm Oil Limited's head office.

But in a statement today Acting Prime Minister Fono says the government is trying it's best to ensure an environment conducive for private sector to grow and prosper.

Mr Fono also says that the security of business compounds and offices is the responsibility of owners.

The Acting Prime Minister says if the incident resulted from disagreements between the company, landowners and company workers then "there is a need to foster a better understanding amongst them to avoid such incidents."

Meanwhile, Mr Fono says the government welcomes the news of the arrest of a man who is helping police to investigate the incident.
