The Solomon Islands Government has approved $25 million dollars for the Ministry of Agriculture.

The money was to support several rice projects in the country. This is seen as a solution to the high prices of imported rice.

The support to the Ministry of Agriculture shows the governments priority to develop rice related projects within the country.

The rise in the price of rice has affected many locals seeing that rice has been the only staple food preferred by many locals.

A number of citizens have applauded the Sikua Governments initiative to support locally grown rice as 'it may lower the price of rice in the country where the low income earners have been the hardest hit during this high rise in food prices,' said Paul Keri.

Turning to local food has been another option locals choose, but since the rise of price has also affected the local vegetable market, rice is still deemed by many as the cheapest option.
