The Grand Coalition for Change Government has appointed its new Deputy Prime Minister.

The PM's Press Office reports the Member of Parliament for Temotu/Nende, and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Immigration and External Trade, Patterson Oti, as the new Deputy Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare announced the appointment at a reception hosted for the business houses in Honiara yesterday.

Mr. Sogavare said the appointment of Mr. Oti reflects the trust and confidence he had in the leadership skills of the Temotu/Nende MP.

The post was vacated when the former holder, the MP for Baegu/Asifola, Toswell Kaua, defected the government last month.

Deputy Prime Minister is the second top political post in the nation's government ranking.
