A government group has gone to Rennell Bellona Province over the weekend to discuss issues surrounding the closure of the Tinngoa airstrip.

The group includes an officer from the Ministry of Lands, the Chief Air Traffic officer and the Premier of Rennell-Bellona Province.

The closure of the Tinngoa Airstrip over the past weeks had been associated with disputes over land ownership.

Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Aviation and Communication, Jeffrey Wickham says the Ministry is concerned with the up keeping of facilities and infrastructure on Tinngoa airport.

Mr Wickham says it is important to discuss the problem but allow services to continue.

He says they would like to reach a solution to avoid such problems from happening in the future because it would affect air transport to Rennell-Bellona Province.

Mr Wickham says the meeting over the weekend had gone well and Mr Wickham thanked the people of Rennell for their understanding and also thanked RAMSI for transporting the group of officials to Rennell Island.
