The High Court has sentenced a former Samoan RAMSI officer to serve three and a half years in jail for the death of a young woman in 2008.

Judge Rex Foukona this morning handed down the sentence to Misi Matamu.

Mr Matamu had been charged with reckless driving causing death and reckless driving causing danger to another person, which resulted in the death of Hilda Ilabae from Malaita in June, 2008.

He pleaded guilty to both charges in April this year.

Judge Foukona sentenced him to three and a half years for the first count and six months for the second count which he will serve concurrently in Samoa.

Matamu was transported to Rove Headquarters under police custody after the sentencing to await his flight to Samoa 2pm this afternoon where he will serve his sentence.
