Food Relief Distributions Begin

The National Disaster Council (NDC) through the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) and Guadalcanal Provincial Disaster office will start distributing food relief to Poha, Veraboli, Vura and Tamboko villages today.

A statement from the NDMO says the distribution will continue on to affected villages in Sahalu Ward on Northwest Guadalcanal and then to the East starting from Burns Creek, Lungga and Sun Valley communities.

The relief distributions will continue throughout this week and onto the weekend.

The NDMO says after that, distributions will be done in each ward until all affected communities have received relief supplies.

The statement says the relief supplies include mainly food and seeds to support farmers who lost their gardens in the January floods.

It says the distribution is now possible after funds have finally been released by the government this week.
