The hugely popular Fly Solomons Half Marathon and Fun Run 2010 will be launched on Friday 10th September at the Heritage Park Hotel.
The event will also feature the traditional Cleanup Honiara Day, earmarked for Saturday 4th September.Tourism Students at the Solomon Islands College of Higher Education are part of the Cleanup crew. As they are also studying Tourism Events this semester, they will be volunteering in the Half Marathon as hands on experience.
The event scheduled to take place on Sunday 12 September at 6:30am is a 21.1km half marathon as well as 5km and 10km Fun Run race. It has so far attracted International participants, local athletes and expatriates. According to the event organizers, it is becoming a major event in Solomon Islands Tourist calendar of events.
There will also be free sausage sizzles and solbrew drinks for participants. Organizers say it will be a great family event for Honiara residents to take part in.
The organizers have acknowledged their important partners: Solomon Airlines, SI Visitors Bureau, SP Oil, Our Telekom, Daltron, Heritage Park Hotel and Solbrew for their support in the event.
Program Lineup:
Saturday 4 September - Tidy Town team cleanup of Honiara.
Wednesday 8 September - First group of visitors to arrive for the event.
Friday 10 September - Last group to arrive.
Friday 10 September at 7pm - Launch Function of the Fly Solomons Half Marathon 2010.
Saturday 11 Sepetmeber - Last day and Registration of local entries into the Fun run.
Sunday 12 September - 0630 start the 21.1km race.
