Chairman of the National Selection Committee of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Chief Justice Sir Albert Palmer today handed over nominees to be formally appointed by the Prime minister.

This marks the end of the task of the selection committee in identifying suitable candidates to be commissioners in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Chief Justice Sir Albert handed over an envelope containing the names of the nominees to the Minister for National Unity Reconciliation and Peace, Sam Iduri, in the presence of the members of the Selection Committee.

He said through their awareness programmes which took members to some provinces, there have been an overwhelming support for the establishment of such commission.

Chief Justice Sir Albert thanked all those who have submitted nominations adding that it's not an easy task choosing the best candidates as all of them have special qualifications.

"We have done our best and selected what we believe and trust are the most suitable persons in the circumstances to take the Truth and Reconciliation Commission forward."

He said the Prime Minister will appoint the five commissioners and will announce their names at a time of his choosing.
