Hospital Authorities have confirmed that the hospital's standby generator was rendered faulty, resulting in the longer than expected power outage at the hospital over the weekend.

There was panic among patients and nurses on duty when power was disrupted temporarily due to a fault in one of SIEA's power lines.

The hospital's technician said the standby generator failed to start up by itself when supply from SIEA was temporarily disconnected, resulting in the power black-out.

The technician said the generator is computerized to shut down when it detected a fault. The technician says that the error has since been corrected.

It is understood that SIEA had disconnected the power line to the hospital due to a fault along the Tuvaruhu power lines.
