Familiarization Exercise for Police Response Team

The Police Response Team under the Solomon Islands Police Force National Response Unit had conducted a Familiarization Exercise at the Rove Ground.

The PRT are officers who respond to a hostile situation and public disorderly situations which may occur on the streets.

Solomon Times was informed that the PRT are the frontline officers that always respond to hostile situations that general police officers would not attend to.

PRT are also called on occasionally to assist General Duty police officers with hostile and disorder situations.

The PRT has just recently inserted additional manpower to enhance its responsive capabilities, which was the reason for yesterday's demonstration.

New PRT officers were introduced to some of the riot equipment at the demonstration.

The team was also supported by the Participating Police Force, with the provision of a Response Team that work along with the Solomon Islands Police Response Team when conducting operational tasks.

The familiarization exercise was conducted to demonstrate the effects of the different riot equipment and to get the new PRT officers accustomed to them.
