The Solomon Islands National Disaster Management Office (NMDO) and its partner agencies are continuing to get food supplies to communities in Honiara and the greater Guadalcanal affected by the recent floods.

These are communities that depend mostly on farming whose crops have been destroyed during the flooding.

Officials and volunteers have been distributing food supplies to these communities, mostly in the Eastern part of Honiara over the weekend.

These communities will also be rehabilitated with tools and planting materials to help restart their gardening activities. Meanwhile, daily food distribution to the remaining evacuation centers in Honiara is ongoing.

These centers, mostly schools have been established to shelter victims whose homes were completely washed away including those whose lives and communities were threatened by floods and the ongoing bad weather.

From a total of 27 evacuation centers, 13 have been closed while 14 are still in full operation. A voluntary repatriation program is ongoing.
