The National Disaster Management Office is working with different partners to conduct four workshops for hospitals in the country as part of events to mark the International Day for Disaster Reduction, IDDR on the 8th this month.

NDMO Director Loti Yates said his office is working with engineers from the Ministry of Infrastructure, Ministry of Health, Oxfam and Solomon Islands Red Cross to run the four workshops in Auki, Honiara, Gizo and Kira Kira.

He said presentations will be made by the NDMO, Heads of hospitals, Engineers from Infrastructure and Solomon Islands Red Cross.

Mr Yates said four officers were expected to travel from to Gizo and Kira Kira yesterday.

He however said Kiluufi hospital has asked for a deferment because a number of its senior staff are attending various health workshops in Honiara at the moment.

He also support for the workshops comes from the Solomon Islands Government, SOPAC as well as Oxfam and Red Cross.

Mr Yates said the theme of this annual event for this year is 'making hospitals safe from disasters.'
