The country has recorded an additional 380 positive COVID-19 cases. The cumulative total COVID-19 positive cases for the country now stands at 6,348.

The Health Minister, Dr. Culwick Togamana, gave the update during his daily situation report on the national broadcaster, SIBC, this evening.

Of the 380 positive cases, 119 are new cases reported over a 24-hour reporting period. 23 are in Honiara, 6 in Choiseul, 8 in Makira, 3 in Guadalcanal, 57 in West, 4 in Isabel, and 18 in Malaita.

261 are old cases from the provinces that were reported outside of the 24-hour reporting period but are added to today’s count. Of the 261 positive cases reported 121 are from West, 112 in Guadalcanal, 27 in Isabel and 1 in Makira.

The Health Minister says that the trend shows that the virus is now spreading rapidly in our provinces, where some of our most vulnerable are in terms of access to health services.

He says his Ministry is doing all it can to distribute important health supplies including oxygen concentrators across all the provinces.

The Health Minister continues to urge those in the rural areas to get vaccinated as health teams are deployed to provincial centers and communities aimed at boosting vaccination coverage.
