Counselors trained to address HIV/Aids

Counselors have been trained in a bid to help curb the spread of HIV/Aids in Solomon Islands.

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services have embarked on training health workers, most of them nurses, in a three-week intensive workshop on preventive measures against the spread of the disease.

Helena Tomasi, Programme manager of HIV/Aids in the Ministry of Health and Medical services, said one of the most difficult things is finding out ones HIV and Aids status. "It requires great sensitivity" Tomasi said. "Basic trainings on how to counsel and reach out to members of the public is therefore a must"
