Hillary Clinton, the Secretary of State of the United States of America, has congratulated the Solomon Islands on its Independence Day.

"On behalf of President Obama and the American people, I congratulate the people of the Solomon Islands on the 32nd Anniversary of your Independence this July 7," Mrs Clinton said in a statement.

Mrs Clinton said that such an important occasion is an opportunity not only to celebrate ones history but also "to reaffirm the ties between our two nations."

"We work together as partners on many issues of common concern and global importance, including promoting peace and reconciliation, combating climate change, protecting fisheries and the environment, and advancing the rights and opportunities of women and girls."

Mrs Clinton said that the United States is committed to deepening "our cooperation with the Solomon Islands in the months and years ahead. On this festive occasion, I offer my warmest wishes for a safe and happy holiday to all Solomon Islanders."
