While a high-level government delegation from the Solomon Islands continue hard negotiations for a legally-binding climate change deal in Germany, a climate change team from the Ministry of Environment was deployed to the Choiseul Province for consultations and awareness raising workshop on climate change.

The team, led by Director of the Ministry's Climate Change Division Douglas Yee, conducted the climate change workshop with the provincial government of Choiseul, NGO's, business houses and community leaders.

A statement from the Climate Change Division says Choiseul is the first provincial stop for the Division's planned nation-wide climate change awareness and consultation tour.

The workshop was held at the provincial capital Taro.

The Division says the nation-wide awareness and consultation tour on climate change is to assist with the development of a national climate change policy.

It says the Environment, Conservation and Meteorology Ministry wants a national climate change policy that reflects the needs and priorities of Solomon Islanders living in provincial centres and rural communities.

It says the national climate change policy will ensure a national approach to addressing climate change, and help Solomon Islands take advantage of new opportunities for achieving sustainable development.

The Climate Change team had conducted workshops at Supizae, Sasamunga and Voza, and Choiseul Bay Secondary School.
