Chief Justice Shares Concerns

Solomon Islands Chief Justice, Sir Albert Palmer has shown great concern for young law graduates who are going into private practice without proper training and mentoring from other senior and experienced lawyers.

These concerns were shared during the opening of the 2013 Legal Year this week.

Sir Albert says the quality of legal submission and advocacy in the courts clearly reflect the lack of proper training and mentoring.

The Chief Justice has urged the Attorney General and the President of the lawyers' Association to consider amendments to the current Legal Practitioners’ Rules, and to address this issue in a practical and meaningful way.

He says the lack of relevant knowledge, skills and experience while going into private practice will affect the quality of legal services provided, court performances and the image of the legal profession in the Solomon Islands.
