A man from Belgium is among nine people reported missing.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police (RSIP) Acting Commissioner, Peter Marshall, said police have received a report confirming the missing man.

It was revealed the Belgium man was in the country with his girlfriend as tourists.

Local media was informed that the man, referred to by surname, Stevens, was last with his girlfriend at the Poha area in west Guadalcanal.

"The man was said to be with his girlfriend at Poha and he went tramping on his own at a place called Kasumba, but there was no particular details on where he was going to walk to."

According to reports, Stevens, 26, was said to be taking a one week hike and was one day late of his time to return.

"There is increasing concerns about his welfare and the Belgium authority through the Canberra Embassy request the information of where the missing person might be," Mr. Marshall said.

Police are seeking assistance from the communities and villagers of the western part of Guadalcanal on any latest of the missing man.

Mr. Marshall said police are still on the grounds to try and locate all nine people reported missing on the northwest Guadalcanal.
