The Australia Awards Scholarships 2020 intake is now open for eligible Solomon Islanders.

Australia Awards Scholarships provide successful Solomon Islanders with the skills and knowledge to drive change and influence economic and social development in Solomon Islands.

Priority fields for 2020 include – Health postgraduate only (including: Mental Health; Epidemiology; Remote Medicine; Obstetrics; Midwifery; Paediatric Medicine/Nursing; Emergency Medicine/Nursing; Intensive Care Nursing; Public Health; and Health Policy and/or Administration), Education (postgraduate only), Pharmacy, Gender equality and development, Economics, business (including procurement and entrepreneurship) and accounting, Counselling and social work (including child protection), Legal services, Engineering (including civil, water, sanitation, biomedical, construction and mining) and architecture, Fisheries, veterinary science, environment & agriculture, Information technology, Statistics, Political & development studies - democracy, corruption, civil society & related areas (postgraduate only).

Scholarships are merit based and applicants will be assessed on their leadership potential, academic competence and their potential to impact on development challenges in Solomon Islands.

In the Solomon Islands, Australia provides two types of Scholarships:

Australia Awards Scholarships: These scholarships provide citizens of Solomon Islands with the opportunity to obtain an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification at a tertiary institution in Australia. In this intake, we will aim to award more postgraduate scholarships than undergraduate scholarships.

Australia Awards Pacific Scholarships (Postgraduate only, nursing studies not supported): These scholarships provides citizens of Solomon Islands with the opportunity to obtain a postgraduate qualification at a tertiary institution in the Pacific. These include the University of the South Pacific, Fiji National University, the University of PNG, & the University of Technology in PNG.

Hard copy applications must be submitted by 4:30pm on 30 April 2019 to the High Commission Chancery Guardhouse (corner of Hibiscus Avenue and Mud Alley in Honiara).

Honiara-based public information sessions will take place at the High Commission Annex office (next to Heritage Park Hotel) every Friday from 11:00 AM to 12.00 midday from 15 February until 26 April 2019.

Provincial public information sessions will be held across the country in February.
