One of Sydney's famous harbour ferries will soon be sailing from its home port to the Solomon Islands.

The ferry called, Lady Wakehurst will operate as an inter-island passenger ferry in the solomon Islands.

Its owner, Craig Short, told Radio Australia that he was inspired by a visit to Honiara.

"Looking at the conditions people there are required to travel on the ferries and I just got this idea. Having grown up in (Sydney beach suburb) Manly, I thought, 'What a shame, they need a ferry like I grew up with in Manly'."

"So that was sort of the light-bulb moment I guess and three years later we're about to take an ex-Manly ferry to Honiara to operate between the islands."

The introduction of the Ferry will surely improve the transportation difficulties between the Islands.
