Association Encouraged for Malaita Tourism Operators

Tourism operators in Malaita Province, Solomon Islands have been encouraged to form an Association to make it manageable for key stakeholders to work with them.

The recently appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Solomon Islands Visitors Bureau, Mr. Josefa Tuamoto made the recommendation at a meeting with tourism Operators of Malaita in Auki this week.

Mr Tuamoto and a team from the Visitors Bureau visited Malaita on one of his first assignments. Similar visits are also planned for other provinces in coming weeks.

Mr Tuamoto said forming an association is easy and manageable which can allow Government and stakeholders to work closely with operators in the provinces.

The CEO said Malaita has vast resources and attractions which require working together to bring something new for its own people.

Another area that was suggested is creating a website containing all information about Malaita, its natural attractions, cultures, traditional way of life and historical sites.

“When a tourist prefers to visit Malaita province he/she can be able to hook up to the website and got all information including accommodation on the island.

Other provinces are also being urged to form their own associations.
