A three days international food workshop will take place in Honiara.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Under Secretary, Alfred Maetia said the food security workshop will take place Wednesday next week at the Iron Bottom Sound hotel. Participants will include both local and international experts and professionals.

"The theme of the workshop is largely on implementation chain studies for agriculture food production," Mr. Maetia said.

"The workshop will also focus on crops that are not commonly exported out of the country such as the ngali nut," Mr. Maetia said. "The Ministry sees this as a tool to improve income generation for regional food program on food security."

"The workshop will also discuss food price as we see it fit in Solomon Islands' situation," Mr. Maetia said.

Solomon Times was informed that the government has budgeted at least SBD$50 million to address the issue of food security in the Solomon Islands.
