Last night at about 6.30pm a 20 year old girl was killed while trying to cross the road at the Prince Phillip Highway in Ranandi.

Witnesses say that the woman ran to avoid being hit, but was struck by the vehicle from the back. The girl was taken by a private vehicle to the National Referral Hospital but passed away on arrival. Police are investigating the accident.

Deputy Commissioner Operations Peter Marshall warned. "It has been a tragic week on our city's roads"

The accident comes just five days after a six-year-old child was also struck by a car while running across the Kukum Highway.

An Australian man also died a week ago today after his vehicle ran into the High Court building in Honiara.
