Peace Education Identify Need of Pacific Women

"Peace education and the utilization of women and indigenous Pacific people's strategies for conflict resolution identify needs of women in the Pacific," a professional curriculum developer from Fiji said.

Speaking at a one-day consultation workshop at the National Council of Women today, Susan Tuisawau said the mandate to write peace education is for a peace loving environment for everybody, "especially for women and children".

Mrs. Tuisawau said that aims for education for peace are to develop the knowledge, attitudes and skills needed to explore concept of peace, inquire into obstacles to peace and the causes of conflicts in individual institutions and societies.

Speaking with Solomon Times, Mrs. Tuisawau said that she hoped participants will, at the end of the workshop, be able to carry out the required task to set the peace education in place.

"The participants should be able to identify new areas of needs, which should be included and validated to suit local needs," Mrs. Tuisawau said.

The workshop attracted a good number of women participants.
