Current political developments in the Solomon Islands are sickening. I don't know whether or not anyone in his or her right mind could ever stomach the threat of a third round of political turmoil in our Solomon Islands.

It is clear from recent media coverage of the claim and counter claims by the Deputy Prime Minister, Fred Fono, and Leader of Opposition, Manasseh Sogavare, that the latter is motivated by pure hunger for power. I do not believe for once that grassroots people of the country are in any way supporting this motion. My verdict (biased or not) is the proposed motion is a mask for some dubious plan.

If the Opposition is genuine about its claim that the current government has failed to immediately address the cause(s) of the ethnic tension then Manasseh should take a bold step by assisting the government in a bipartisan motion to establish a 'Truth and Reconciliation Commission (already or not!)'. This would assist in healing the nation and helping to identify instigators, founders and operatives of MEF and Guadalcanal militants. The nation will not move forward - politically, economically and socially - if criminals remain anonymous and embedded in the political leadership and processes of the country.
