Police Officer wins RAMSI Special Coordinator's Award for Women

Royal Solomon Islands Police Officer, Detective Inspector Florence Taro, was awarded the RAMSI Special Coordinator's Award for Women, recognising her contribution to improving the status of women both within and outside the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF).

RAMSI Special Coordinator, Graeme Wilson, presented the award to Inspector Taro at today's RAMSI Women's Breakfast attended by more than 200 women, as part of International Women's Day celebrations in Solomon Islands. In presenting the award, Mr Wilson said that Detective Inspector Taro was a shining example of the dedication and commitment of women in Solomon Islands. First TRC Hearing Brings Relief and Hopes for Reconciliation

Nine victims from the tensions in Solomon Islands testified before the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, TRC, during the first day of public hearings.

First TRC Hearing Brings Relief and Hopes for Reconciliation The tragic and disturbing stories told by the nine victims gave an insight into the types of abuses many Solomon Islanders experienced between 1998 and 2003. Among the crimes committed were murder, brutal violence and looting. Hundreds of families had to flee from their homes. Many giving testimony expressed relief at finally being able to tell their stories publicly. ADB, AFD Work to Promote Growth, Reduce Poverty and Protect Environment

MANILA, PHILIPPINES - The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) have pledged to continue working closely together and jointly mobilize their resources to promote sustainable growth, fight poverty, and protect the environment in the Asia and Pacific region.

Providing stronger assistance for development projects through cofinancing and stronger linkages with the private sector will be among the key thrusts of the ADB-AFD Partnership Framework Agreement for 2010 - 2016, alongside with new research and knowledge-based activities. Taiwan Ambassador Releases 2010 RCDF

The Ambassador of the Republic of China (ROC), Taiwan, HE George Chan had formally released the first payment of SB$10 million for the '2010 Rural Constituency Development Fund (RCDF)' covering 50 constituencies in Honiara yesterday afternoon.

Taiwan Ambassador Releases 2010 RCDF Prime Minister Dr Derek Sikua formally received documents of the payment at a brief handover ceremony at the Prime Minister's Office. Ambassador Chan said Taiwan fully supported the Solomon Islands Government in implementing its rural advancement policy. "The fund will be contributing enormously to the alleviation of poverty and improvements in quality of life for rural people," Mr Chan said.
