Cow Disease Hits Fiji

Some sections of Fiji's cattle industry are being threatened by the re-emergence of Brucellosis, a bacterial disease found in the reproductive tracts of animals but which can be contracted by humans.

Cow Disease Hits Fiji According to Fiji Times Online, the disease, which had been dormant for 10 years, has re-emerged in cows in one of Fiji's provinces, Tailevu North, forcing authorities to place a quarantine over the area. The brucella abortus is the bacteria in cattle that causes brucellosis. According to the Ministry of Primary Industries, the quarantine has been in place since June 16, with the monitoring of all movement in the area and calls for the disinfection of all vehicles leaving Wainivesi Road. Prominent Lawyer Arrested

The Police yesterday arrested and charged Honiara Private lawyer Charles Ashley, in relation to the misappropriation of more than one million dollars.

Prominent Lawyer Arrested The police media office says officers executed search warrants at Mr. Ashley's house and his law firm, located in Naha, early yesterday morning. Mr. Ashley, 43, has been charged with 27 counts of Conversion, one charge of Money Laundering and a charge of False Pretences. The Director of the National Criminal Investigation Division NCID, Acting Chief Superintendent Silas Karani, said that this is the second arrest in recent weeks "of people who seek to gain advantage illegally from corrupt practices." Solomon Islanders Encouraged to Apply for EPLD 2010

Solomon Islanders are encouraged to apply for the Emerging Pacific Leaders Dialogue (EPLD) 2010 as the closing date gets closer.

Solomon Islands Government Steers RAMSI through Partnership Framework

The Solomon Islands Government (SIG) is taking the lead in steering the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) as the two parties pursue agreed areas of assistance through the recently developed SIG - RAMSI Partnership Framework.

Second Swine H1N1 Flu Test Returns Negative

Test results for the second suspected H1N1 or swine flu case sent from the National Referral Hospital to Melbourne, Australia have returned negative.

Second Swine H1N1 Flu Test Returns Negative The Ministry of Health's Under Secretary Dr Cedric Alependava had told the media earlier that there was a second suspected case of the swine H1N1 flu, an expatriate who had just returned from Australia. Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, Dr Lester Ross, confirmed to the SIBC that the tests have returned negative.
